As a Software Engineer in one of our Azure SRE teams, you will be responsible for improving the reliability of key Azure products.

The Azure SRE key focus areas are:



Building reusable automation and processes that help multiple teams meet their reliability goals. Influencing product architecture and roadmaps to ensure customer-experienced reliability is a core design principle.
Contributing directly to product code to achieve reliability outcomes. Leveraging AI to proactively detect anomalies, predict incidents, and automate operational workflows - scaling reliability efforts across complex systems.

Providing technical leadership across multiple Azure teams. Mentoring others on SRE principles, practices, and tools as well as AI usage to boost software development productivity.
Designing and developing large-scale distributed software services and solutions. Delivering best-in-class engineering by ensuring services are modular, secure, reliable, testable, diagnosable, observable, and reusable.
Collaborating with internal and external partners to support team goals. Balancing pragmatism with visiondriving continuous improvements in process and codebase. Building automation to prevent or remediate service issues before they impact users.
Driving innovation in large-scale operations by applying cutting-edge AI tools and techniques to reduce operational toil and scale reliability engineering across complex systems. Gaining a working understanding of Microsoft businesses and contributing to cohesive, end-to-end user experiences.

The Kusto team builds Microsofts big data interactive analytics service Azure Data Explorer, that powers Microsoft big data analytics products and is used extensively to operate many other Microsoft services and products.

We are looking for a highly skilled and driven Principal Software Developer Engineer to join the Kusto engine team, the backbone of Microsofts telemetry and analytics infrastructure powering Azure Data Explorer and Microsoft Fabric Real-Time Intelligence. This role is ideal for a technical leader who thrives on solving complex distributed systems challenges and driving innovation in large-scale data processing.
Responsibilities
Extensive experience in building and scaling distributed systems or data platforms.
Deep understanding of query engines, storage architectures, and performance tuning.
Strong coding skills in C#, C++, or similar systems-level languages.
Proven ability to lead complex technical projects and deliver high-impact results.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills

Build features end to end - from our endpoint installed on the user machine across multiple platforms to Cloud Services.

Become a founding member of the AIAL group as part of Microsoft Red Team.

As a founding member, you will help shape the teams culture and practices.



Key responsibilities include:

Research and discover zero-day vulnerabilities in AI applications, models, and AI service ecosystems.

Work closely with Red Team operators and engineering teams to address findings and strengthen the resilience of AI-driven systems.

Analyze a wide array of data sources to identify potential security weaknesses and breach points within Microsofts AI infrastructure.

Develop tools and techniques to scale and accelerate adversary emulation and vulnerability discovery.

Advocate for security change across the company by building partnerships and clearly communicating the impact of risks.
